Swindon Borough Council searching for developer for town centre scheme

Swindon Borough Council has revealed that it is looking for a developer to transform a site in the town centre.

Outline planning permission was granted in October last year for 118 units of one- and two-bedroom apartments within a building which could be up to 13 storeys high at the old Aspen House site.

The site is also considered suitable for a commercial development, such as a hotel.

Aspen House was previously a 12-storey office block built in the 1970s and demolished in 2014.

The 1.21-acre site lies directly opposite the Savoy at the top of the town.

“This is a very exciting project and we are keen to work with developers to bring it to fruition,” said Cllr Garry Perkins, cabinet member for the town centre at Swindon Borough Council.

“Making the town centre an attractive place to live and work is a key priority for this council, and this site has huge potential for successful redevelopment.”

Developers interested in the project have until 12noon on Wednesday 12th September 2018 to contact the council.
